What the Kimberley Process?

The Kimberley Process is a joint initiative involving governments, the World Diamond Council and NGOs to stop the trade in conflict diamonds, rough diamonds used by rebel movements to finance armed struggle against legitimate governments. For several decades, the illegal trade of diamonds has fueled devastating conflicts in countries such as Angola, Cote d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo or Sierra Leone.
